Option C requires a computer with Windows 95 or higher, and needs ~5 MB of free space on drive C:\ (the hard drive).
Before proceeding please carefully read the installation instructions and note any system requirements or cautions. When you click OptionC.exe (see download link below), you will be asked if you want to run the program from where it is or if you would like to save this program to disk. Option C involves a large file (approx. 7 Mb) and could take over 30 minutes to download, especially with a slow modem.
Saving the program (OptionC.exe) to disk will allow you to install the program at a later time by simply running OptionC.exe from the directory in which you choose to save it (using approx. 7 Mb more disk space).
When you run OptionC.exe (either now or later), several files will be installed onto your system. The main program will install in the directory C:\Program Files\Nysprl\Option C. The following text files will also be placed in this directory: installation instructions (readme.txt); the ASCII text file validator User Guide (UserGuideC.txt); and the ASCII text file specifications called Guidelines.txt.

Windows Vista operating system—This software has been tested on Vista and is compatible with that operating system. Please review the Installation for Vista Users section in the readme file before installing on Vista.
Users may be asked to reboot their computer after installing Option C. Guidelines.txt gives the requirements for creating ASCII text files (using any program you own that produces suitable standard ASCII text files). It also explains the reporting requirements and format of data for these text files.
The ASCII text file Validator User Guide describes how to validate text files using a program called validate.exe. The validation program will ask you to enter or verify some contact information that will be placed in the file C:\prlYYYY\identity.txt (where YYYY represents the current year). You must include this file with any electronic data submissions.
PLEASE NOTE: You must validate all PRL ASCII text files before submission. ASCII text files that do not conform to the required format will be rejected by NYSDEC.
